Student Profile:
Alejandro
Ortiz has gone through many challenges this year and has changed as a student
in the process. When he first started as a student in Frank McCourt high school
in September he didn’t know what to expect, but as time progressed and he
adapted he learned many things. In Humanities class he learned how to work in
groups very well by participating in fishbowl activities, working in reading
groups, having group discussions, etc. His analytical skills really helped in
humanities. In media he learned how to draw three dimensional shapes and
although he struggled at first, he managed to create a shading value scale.
Alejandro
has changed as a person this year as well. Alejandro helped organize a kickball
event to help support cancer treatment. This kickball game was called kick-it
and was organized in Frank McCourt high school. Alejandro helped narrow down
what questions his group should ask when asking the vice principal about when
and where the game was allowed to be played. Alejandro even participated in the
game and contributed to the donations. The game was played after school but it
still earned quite a bit of money. The planning of the game was very
challenging especially deciding when the game would be held. Also deciding who
would work on what, but Alejandro and his group got everything together and got
to enjoy a great kick-ball game against the tenth graders, and the ninth
graders won! Alejandro is proud to have participated in this event because not
only did he earn money for cancer treatment, he also got to get the ninth and
tenth graders together to have fun and bond.
